2009 Reflections

I couldn't say how many years worth of pictures I still have to get into albums - nor do I want to think about it!  So my first resolution for 2010 is to get a whole year's worth of pictures and journaling archived.  Granted, this will be a bit of a cheater's version but done, nonetheless...

JANUARY
Gaylord Texan and "Ice" Exhibit
Over Colton's winter break, we were able to use our wonderful airlines miles to carve a little vacation into our even busier lives, now that we had just started Games2U 3 months earlier.  What a beautiful hotel!  We truely enjoyed our stay and the amazing ice exhibit, complete with a slide made entirely of ice.
I think Colton mostly enjoyed the buffet food at a gourmet restaurant inside the hotel (mmm...good!) and all of the Christmas figures/decorations.  Our room was so high up we could look straight out and see the sea of lights hanging from the ceiling of the arboritum.  I particularly liked the life-sized Gingerbread House.  We probably took about 300 pictures, it was all so beautiful, but I can't find any trace of them.  I think Neal mostly enjoyed getting some time with us and away from home.  He's happy wherever he goes, as long as it's away!

60th Birthday!
My dad turned 60 years old this year and we surprised him with a pirate "Who done it?" party.  Everyone was given a character to dress up and act like, then tried to figure out who killed the captain's 1st mate.

Surprise!

Melissa, who played the governor's daughter, gave dad instructions on how to play...

Then dad joined us dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Just look at all of those scallywags...

FEBRUARY
New Home
Began renovations on a house we bought in the country.

Eggs Anyone?
Colton began cooking!

Breakfast is his favorite meal of the day, so naturally he wanted to learn how to make it.  He even has been making scrambled eggs for Neal and I on occasion.

 MARCH
Colorado
Colton and cousin, Matthew, went skiing and dog sledding with Mimi and Grandpa.

APRIL
Renovations continue

Here's a "before" picture of the entsy-wentsy kitchen.

The green double doors lead into a laundry closet which we moved out and tore down that wall.

Kitchen after renovations were nearing completion!!

MAY
Move In Time!!
See the window farthest on the right side?  That used to be the carport and is now our bedroom, bath and laundry room.  The single window just to it's left is what used to be the laundry closet and now has become part of the kitchen extended up to it.

JUNE
Camp Tanglewood
Colton went to golf camp.  He's asking to go there again!  I don't think he's EVER asked to go to or do anything a second time.  This is monumental.

16th Anniversary on the 25th
Neal had a training job for new Games2U franchisees in Austin so I went with him and we had a really nice dinner date while there.  On our way back through Dallas we picked up our newly wrapped pickup truck.

JULY
Lego Camp
Colton went to Lego Camp near Southlake and received special attention while staying with Mimi.

Bike Riding
Colton finally learned to ride his bike!! Yay!  Daddy told him we would get him a 4-wheeler once he learned as motivation.  Boy, that sure did seem to motivate - but I think it was more due to the fact that we now have a place to ride and that mom and dad were resolute to help him learn!

Go, Colton, Go!

AUGUST
Summer Vacation at The Great Wolf Lodge

We brought along cousin Sam for an added measure of fun.

The boys worked hard to figure out the next clue on Magic Quest.

The secret passageways were actually the hotel's inner stairwell.
These were used more than I'd like to say!

There were eight passageways.

I'm pretty sure we spent some time in the water park ? ? ?

SEPTEMBER
FedEx
Neal was able to finally position himself so that he no longer has to drive on a daily basis.  It took about a month before he wasn't filling in still, but we have all enjoyed having him around more!

Texas State Fair
Colton's class went on a field trip prior to the fair opening.  The highlight of the trip was watching the 52 foot tall statue, Big Tex, raised by crane into position and dressed in his cowboy boots.  Then we went again, as a family, with Mayoral cousins (my sister's family) after opening.

Colton was mostly interested in riding the huge farris wheel and loved it!

Matthew, Colton and Sam went through the simulated farmers market, planting, cultivating and harvesting.

They all "earned" a dollar, good for a snack in the "farmers market".

Pirates of the Carribean live, outdoor show!

OCTOBER
Games2U
One of the busiest months for Games2U.  Yay!

NOVEMBER

  • Yet another "busiest" month for Games2U : )

  • Colton completed his very first 3rd grade project.  He seemed to enjoy finding and learning about 18 inventions of Ben Franklin, then putting those together on a mobile.

  • Heather had surgery

DECEMBER
History Project
Colton turned in his project a day early!

You can just see the pride in that smile!

The Battle of Vicksburg

Another Surgery
Buddy had surgery on both eyes....

..and he was so lucky to get to wear this

for 3 weeks.

It didn't keep him from doing all the things dogs do though...

But I don't think it was his favorite time in life...

Nor ours, having to put eye cream in his eyes 2 times a day.  But we are glad it's all better now!

Christmas Surprise
We were unable to follow through with our promise of purchasing a 4-wheeler for Colton accomplishing bike riding, by Christmastime, so Santa Claus surprised all of us with this amazing gift to Colton!
