In an effort to make a most memorable ending to such a fun summer I organized a day at the community pool with Colton's classmates...
then we all headed over to Braum's to meet more friends for ice cream...
and I made a "Back to School" dinner for him and his cousin, Austin. Oh, but that had to change to an "End of Summer" dinner. You see, as I began explaining my wonderful plan to Colton of creating a school themed table setting, complete with pencils and lined paper (see my example here) while in the store shopping he replied with, "Why would you do that to me?" How could I, remind him of school?
Note to Self: reveal such plans prior to going shopping for such plan!
Of course...that's make since. He's no longer excited about school, but even though I had thought in the back of my head he probably wouldn't like a school theme, I really wanted to try to get him excited about it. I should have realized when he could care less about what kind of notebook he got, or what kind of colored pencils he got, or what kind of eraser, that he really could also care less about a school themed dinner. Silly me.
So, here's what we did instead...
A picnic style "End of Summer" dinner was just the ticket! Per Colton's request, we had breaded chicken patties with macaroni and cheese, spinach and apple crisp for dessert. More of a cafeteria-school themed style dinner than picnic food. So it was a bit ironic I thought.
Ready for the big day!
Just look at the enthusiasm. Can't you see his excitement? That is one boy who is rearing and ready to go! Ha, ha! He actually was pretty excited about his new backpack, though.
I finally got a couple good ones.
Have a great year, hunny!

How fun!! But I can't get over the fact that Colton asked for spinach...:-)
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! That is hilarious that he said, "Why would you do that to me?" I love how the picnic style theme turned out.
