Road Trippin' - Natural Bridge Caverns

On our way to San Antonio we stopped by Natural Bridge Caverns, just 30 minutes north of town, to go through their Discovery Tour.  Named for the "natural" bridge formation of rocks to the original opening of the cave Natural Bridge Caverns is the largest and most spectacular in Texas.
At 180 feet below earth's surface, we saw amazing formations as well as experienced a little reprieve from the days heat above at a nice 70 degrees.  Don't think it was cold, like I mistakenly did.  I began shedding the extra clothes I brought along almost immediately.  Humidity stays around 99% day and night.  You can watch this video of two of the spelunkers recount that exciting day of discovery.

King's Throne

Neal walked barefoot the entire 3/4 mile tour, since he was wearing flip flops.  I felt more comfortable not slipping down the steep walkways in my flip flops.  Tennies would be best here. It is extremely steep!

"The Watchtower", at 50 feet tall,
is the tallest column in the caverns.

Elephant Ears grow from the ceiling,
while Soda Straws grow from the floor.

It really is quite impressive how massively open the cave has formed. Colton doesn't remember having toured another cavern as a toddler, so this was a great time to explore together and see God's creativity below us.
