Road Trippin' - Tower, Schlitterbaun & Austin

Oh my goodness, I have some catching up to do!
So the last morning in SA is spent as high as we can be...in the Tower of the Americas.
In fact, 750 feet high.  It towers over Dallas' Reunion Tower by 189 feet and you can certainly feel the difference.

Chart House Restaurant provided us with panoramic views and upscale dining.  As most of you know, any type of building in grand scale is what entertains our little upcoming architect.  This is one happy camper!

San Antonio

Colton ate the Shrimp Fresco, a Parmesan crusted shrimp dish with angel hair pomodoro, topped with jumbo lump crab.  Again, I should have ordered the same as him.  Some of the the most melt-in-your-mouth pasta/cheese ever!  I had a somewhat greasy Chicken BLT, a parmesan crusted chicken with bacon, tomato, crisp greens & balsamic mayonnaise on toasted sourdough bread.  Don't get me wrong, it was good but would have been much better with less butter on the grilled bread.  I think this may have been one of those times I was trying to leave Neal alone with picture-taking, so I don't remember what he ordered but I do remember him liking his dish.

Observation Deck

It was like a wind tunnel up there. Above, Colton has stopped to show me how the wind has "filled" his shirt.

These short cascading waterfalls stretch across the front entrance to the Americas.  I just love the geometric, Aztec designs in this town.

I wanted to make one more stop, to the La Vallita.  Colton ended up being the one to leave with a souvenir: a Davy Crockett coonskin hat.

Oh, but then we got thirsty and a local shop owner referred us to this place for great root beers.
Ya, I know this is not a great picture but it really is.  It just was an extremely blurred photo I tried my best to fix because it was one of the best pictures taken and I couldn't leave it out.  We REALLY enjoyed our root beer on that hot summer day.

Here, this one is better.  If my memory serves me well we received a free second mug if we finished our first.  Obviously, Colton was able to accomplish that task.  Colas in general are quite sweet to me and these were even more so, but oh so good!

Schlitterbaun!
We were so excited to spend a whole day at such a well-known, much liked and talked about water park.  After all the parks Colton and I visited this summer, I was ready to write a review on all of them.  Well, time has passed and so has that urge but I must say, this one is worth the visit at least once.  And you must try out their uphill slide.  It is something else!

This is a bit of a tricky view but we are actually being forced UPhill in this photo!

But you DO eventually have to go down...

Congo River Expedition

I don't know that I would make another special trip to go again since the crowds were ridiculous.  We waited for the uphill slide for at least an hour!  But it certainly was a fun experience like none in the metroplex!

Austin
I made a little splurge with our airline miles on this one.  Have you ever been in a place or situation where you don't quite feel like you are supposed to be where you seem to have found yourself?  We felt that way just a tad before we even walked into this grand entryway.  Of course, you know you're not at your average hotel when valet parking is "required".

I mean, this place is swank.  Those throws on the bed are FUR!

And, how many times do you receive his and her bathrobes at the Hilton?  I'm just sayin'.

Not only is this place swank, but it is filled with so much history.

With a place like this you know they aren't going to skimp on food either. That pancake was soooo good!  There he is again, ordering our favorite of everyone's order.

The Driskill is right in the heart of downtown and I highly recommend if you ever get the chance to stay for a night that you be sure to treat yourself to this one!

State Capitol

Colton with his new hero: Davy Crockett, inside the capitol building.

At the end of our trip my sweet husband told me he had a surprise for me back at the house.  I thought I knew what it might be because he had been quizzing me recently of what exactly I would like to do with our front flowerbeds and what type of rock I wanted in them.  This was perfect!

Not only did I not have to do the remodel myself but he took care of coordinating the job with our sister and brother-in-law (Courtney & Steve) without any of my involvement.  What a wonderful gift and a great way to come home from a fun trip!
