NYC Part 4 - Bus Tour & Statue of Liberty

Eating in Times Square became extremely expensive very quickly.  So we found little grocery/deli style stores to have a lighter breakfast budget, like this one.  Don't mistake, though, this still cost more than Mickey D's.

We finally were able to experience riding in a double decker bus.  We quickly figured out this would be the least expensive way to get from one end of town to another since we had a 2 day pass.  Only problem is we had to make sure we were going on one we hadn't been on before to take in sights we hadn't yet seen or we would just be riding around all day to get somewhere.

It's been some time now, but if I recall correctly, our tour guide said New York City receives more letters for Santa Claus than any other post office.  Just in case you haven't heard for a while, here is a sweet article about how Operation Santa Claus got started.  See how big this building is?  I think he also said it's the biggest post office building in the country.

Remember, it was Thanksgiving when we were here which is one of, if not the, busiest times for the city.  See how crowded?  Notice superman down on the right.

setting up shop for the day...

I can almost always get a snap shot of
Colton reading a map on our trips.

On the ferry headed for Ellis Island.
It was a very cold day (and windy!).

Have you ever noticed Lady Liberty has one foot lifted?
I hadn't, until we saw her in person.

The day ended with a long wait at a very popular pizza parlor.  In fact, it is the only (grandfathered in) operating coal burning oven-baked pizzeria.  We heard about it on a Travel Channel special and decided if we had the time we would be certain to find it.  Tucked away on an unassuming corner in Little Italy, Lombardi's gave a warm and inviting family style atmosphere with a very friendly wait staff.  In fact, Colton was invited to see the actual coal oven in the kitchen.  Unfortunately, by this time my camera's battery had depleted from the day's adventures.  I think I may have been too embarrassed to ask if I could take a picture anyway.

Although a meatball pizza was not my choice for a one time experience, it was very delicious!  As you can see, Colton was very pleased.
Last to come....Empire State Building and the museum.
