Colton and his class finally finished their 2 month long history project and celebrated the completion of their Texas Notebooks this Friday with "Texas Day"! It was so much fun for all of us. Half of the fun for Colton was simply dressing up like a Cowboy. He was thrilled to be allowed to wear the spurs his daddy made for his great Grandaddy, and cling-clang around school all day.
The festivities began with good ole' square dancing...
It continued with some rootin' tootin' horse racin'...
Then the 1st graders were rounded up...
tied up and branded (with a highlighter, of course)....
And finished off with a taste of Texas! Chili, Fritos, Dr. Pepper and pecan pie - yum : ) I got to try my hand at making a pecan pie for the first time (as well as tasting it for the first time) and was delightfully surprised. I generally don't care for pecans in food but this was good. Thank you, Sally, for the recipe!
Good thing I made 2 pies, one for Texas Day and one for home! About Colton's get up...I normally don't go out to purchase new items for a one day event like this, but he had absolutely nothing that would come even close to looking cowboy-ish. So we headed to Goodwill and found his shirt and straw hat for a total of $5.00. Score!

looks like it was a fun day!!! and doesn't Colton look handsome in his cowboy getup...
ReplyDeleteLooks fun! Emma G has to dress up as a cowgirl on Friday. I love pecan pie!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Colton and his friends had a fun day, and Colton looks great in his cowboy getup. Glad your pies turned out good, Heather, and that you liked them, too. Sally
