My Product Reviews

I just love it when I find products that are good for you, taste good and include the convenience we all need so much for our busy lives.  So here are a few items I have come across lately I hope you find helpful too.  Give ‘em a try and let me know what you think!

Kashi 7 Grain Waffles

Recently, I’ve begun looking more diligently for the “Whole Grain” symbol on packages, and I nearly couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw one on a box of frozen waffles!  These are some of the tastiest waffles I’ve had, including homemade.  With 7 grams fiber, 24 grams whole grains (over 1/3 recommended daily), omega 3, all natural goodness (nothing in the ingredients list I don’t know what it is) and 150 calories per 2 waffles, what’s not to love?
Oh ya, that sodium thing.  Gets me just about every time!  As with any prepared or frozen product you can’t forget about sodium.  This one takes down 340mg of the stuff, but if you plan well it won’t hurt your daily values.  This morning, we had waffles with a fruit smoothie so only about 1/3 of our daily value was used on breakfast.  Plus, if you only eat one waffle you only take in 170mg.

Back to NATURE – Harvest Whole Wheats Crackers

Keeping with the Whole Grain goodness, these crackers pack a yummy punch to any lunch!  For 6 crackers you get 120 calories, 0 saturated fat, 140mg sodium, 3g fiber, no hydrogenated oils and a whopping 26g whole grains.  Yes, it has the Whole Grain seal as well and tastes much like Triscuts crackers.

*Eating the above two products in one day will satisfy your daily recommend values for whole grains of 48 grams.

Gourmet Garden Ginger Spice Blend

One of the smartest ideas, squeezable ginger!  Have you ever tried to grate or mince ginger?  Not easy or fun.  This finely chopped fresh ginger makes cooking a cinch.  I used it for this Benihana’s Ginger Salad Dressing copycat recipe and it was good.  A little less than the recommended amount of ginger would have been better for me, but it was still good…and, I didn’t have to spend the money on a Benihana dinner to get their yummy salad.  A 4oz tube, equivalent to 21 pieces of ginger (whatever that means!), will last about 2 and half months in the refrigerator.  Some gingerbread or cookies may be in order shortly.  I don’t want to let this $4.00 convenience tube go to waste!

Here are some of their ginger recipes.  Also, I just read that you can freeze ginger in ice cube trays or roll it up like candy.  Now I can make it last that much longer!

The first two products were found at Wal-Mart, but I’m sure they are available at just about any store.  I found the squeezable ginger at Albertson’s.  I haven’t needed to replace it yet so I’m not sure if Wal-Mart or any other store carries it.  Please let me know if you find it somewhere else!

Enjoy : )
